THE CONCEPT

London, Paris and Milan runways have always set the trends for the season. This year the IT item of clothing to own is the oversized boyfriend blazer. Historically the blazer came to power in the 80’s and 90’s when the likes of Cindy Crawford made it cool to wear that oversized blazer with a great perm and a polished overall look. Most popularly called a chic meets messy Beverly Hills glam style. While in London Victoria Beckham opted for an oversized blazer, at Dubai Fashion Week (Fashion Forward Dubai) designers such as Arwa Al Banawi, Eudon Choi and Roni Helou incorporated the Blazer as part of their Spring/Summer 2018 Collections. Designers Ralph Laure, Jil Sander, Prada and Tibi incorporated and upscale Ready-To-Wear Blazer, styled in their own way. So what is the charm of the oversized boyfriend Blazer? It’s casual cool and looks both professional and informal at the same time. Pair it with skinny jeans, loose trousers and if you’re feeling more of a Cher Dion mood from clueless, pair it with a skirt. They are power suits, for powerful and strong women. Ruling the runways, the jacket’s this season are complete with shoulder padding, checks and vintage buttons. Revitalised for the women of 2017.

HOW TO STYLE

The good news is that the boyfriend blazer can be styled upscale or can be styled for a casual afternoon coffee. Pair with straight or structured trousers, a blouse and court shoes for a polished work or night out look. Add some accessories like a necklace, rings or simple earrings. From the various Fashion Week street style photography out there, a casual, street chic look is easy and simple to re-create. Add a classic turtle neck top with trousers or jeans, keep it simple and add an envelope bag for a vintage look. Even add some trainers or loafers to make it comfortable yet stylish.
